Affiliate Marketing – Is it really worth it?

What a day. I was out all day and just arrived home and returned a few calls, made supper and sat down to kick back and relax in front of the tube. Nothing but snow – No Cable!

Yes, I paid the bill.

Actually, I only paid half the bill. Where I live they charge a month in advance. I refuse to pay in advance, so I always pay for the month I'm using it, but It did cross my mind they may be trying to make a point.

Now, I've had Vonage phone service since 2006 and you guessed it  – VOIP. When I saw the little red light flashing on my router, jeez, the phone's out too.

So I grabbed the cell and called the cable company. Service outage, it should be back on shortly.

What did people DO before cable TV and the Internet? Got closer to family and actually talked, maybe played games? So I decided to write a post. I can write it but can't post it.

On to the meat of my post – Affiliate Marketing.

Is it worth joining some affiliate network or going it on your own in a niche? In my experience, it's worth joining an affiliate program if you find a good one. What constitutes a good affiliate program? Well, you could look over this blog and find the best ;-)

I've already done the work in finding and checking them for you. Other than that, when you find one you think is for you, do a little research:

How long has the company been in business?

How solid is their company according to the Better Business Bureau?

How do they pay? (online transfer – PayPal or another online payment processor is best) vs a mailed check

How is their history of paying their affiliates on time?

For a company like Clickbank or Amazon, does the product you're thinking of promoting have lots of charge-backs or are the customers generally satisfied?

Does the sales page look nice and is something you’d buy from? How long has the product or promo been going on?

Do a little research now and save yourself trouble later by knowing the affiliate program you're thinking of joining has a good track record.

If you want to take the easy route and know you're joining a top notch program, have a look at the Business and Products review page at the top of this blog. I’m always adding to it. You may also want to have a look at the new advertising page I’m working on. The advertising I’m bringing you here really works. You will get signups and build any business you have.

Ok. My little red router light just turned to green…

Do you have the Golden Touch?

Copywriting. The fine art of being able to move people solely with your words. If you're good at copywriting, you can basically write your own ticket to your future. Good copywriters have the ability to get people to do what they want them to, when they want them to do it. This is a huge asset.

This is the best business skill you can learn. Great copywriters aren't born, but learn and evolve. The best can command  top rates easily and usually write for  corporations or ghostwrite for the best marketers out there. Those that hire them will invest thousands or tens of thousands of dollars to have them write a single sales pages or multiple pages because it's a very good investment and will generate thousands or even millions of dollars in revenue.

There are master copywriters out there who will charge you upwards of $10,000 for a single sales page and you know what? It's worth every penny. Two of my favorite copywriters are John Carlton and Perry Marshall. These guys are masters of their trade and their copywriting courses cost thousands to join. Again, worth every penny.

I've been asked numerous times. What's the best skill I can learn for running my own business and make my bottom line better? This is always my answer.  If you're a good copywriter and can emotionally move people with your words and create trust, you're bound to be successful in whatever you choose.

Ad and Link Tracking is a must if you're serious about your business. What exactly should you track?  Everything you do. If you don't track, how do you know how well or poorly something is performing? You don't – and it could cost you a lot of money.

Suppose you're just tracking a link or ad. If you're getting clicks and it's performing reasonably well. Then you have two options. Leave it as is or try to tweak it to perform even better. If you're not getting the results you expected, why keep the ad up?

Now, suppose you're using Google Ad Words or Facebook ads and are paying for that ad? You can lose hundreds or even thousands of dollars if you don't know how the ad is performing. You need to track every click and action performed. You need to know exactly what's going on.

Look for software that has the ability to track, but can also cloak your affiliate links. This is important because link thieves can actually steal your money..Oh Yes, there are people that will strip out your affiliate ID from the link and take credit for your hard work and the money that should be yours.

Mouse over any link I've put in on this blog (not the comments, recent posts and the like – that's supplied by WordPress) and you'll see what I mean. All you'll see is "nobetterjob.com /adtrackz/ whatever I/m tracking". You can also learn a lot just by mousing over any links in the emails you receive or on websites you visit. Try it out!

So, you should be tracking everything you do. Every advertisement, affiliate link everything. Not only will you know whats performing well – especially if you're paying for the ads, but you should also have the ability to cloak your affiliate links so no one is stealing from you. Some of these metrics are pretty cool too; you can see where your traffic is coming from and many other variables.

If you pay to play, you'll obviously get more bells and whistles. If you're on a budget, try Leads Leap. It's free and you can cloak links, but you can also put in your own ads and earn credits to get them shown.

What does it take to earn a living from home?

I wish I had a dollar for every time I've been asked that question.
Before I give you the answer, let me give you some cold, hard facts.

Fully 95% of people that try to make a living from the internet fail. I'm not talking about  making an income, but a living. Why? Various reasons. What's the main one? They don't know how. Their heart is in the right place, they have the incentive and reasons – they just don't know what they're doing. It's no more complicated than that.

That's also why  these let's say, disreputable companies, can relieve so many people of their hard earned cash simply by promising to show them the bright burning path, but they always leave parts of the road map out. Just enough to keep you coming back. Believe me, I know. .

There's a reason why I put my post  "A concept to get almost anything accomplished" up early on. Hopefully you read it and it started you thinking.

The answer to the first question is actually two. Terror and Confidence.

Terror-being so afraid you may fail that you won't. You don't have the weekly paycheck coming in to rely on. You have to count on yourself completely. So it's very good to know what you're doing.

Confidence-in yourself to continue making a living with your business as it evolves and so do you and love what you do.

I was given a little nugget of information early on that I'd like to share: Treat it like a business, not a hobby. Simple, succinct and to the point.

I'm offering you a chance to learn how to start and run your own internet business in this post. I'll also tell you this is the course I took years ago and I still use today to find answers because it's constantly updated. When I took it, it was called the Insider Secrets Course.

The course is now called the Step by Step Guide to Selling Online. A short summary for this is on the Business and Product reviews page.

The reason I started this blog was to give people a way to make an informed decision . If you're a current reader, you know I don't sugar coat things and I come to the point quickly. You also know that I'll only share what I've personally used and can recommend as the best out there.

Let me be blunt: I don't care if you invest in everything I suggest on this blog or nothing at all..  I'm just giving you the truth about what works and what doesn't and you can make your own decisions. I feel something as important as learning how to start your business and change your future is pretty important. If you don't know what the hell you're doing, how can you possibly be successful ?

I'd like to ask a favor though. If you do take the course, please send me a testimonial with your link when your business is up and running. I'd like to post it here on the blog

Making Money from Home isn’t as hard as it used to be

A Home Business: Should include a comfortable chair, your favorite computer and your Niche.

A Niche:  A home business based on what you'd truly love to do -whether you'd make money or not… a Passion.
Figure out what you love to do if you'll be paid for it or not. If you have that much passion for it, you're bound to be successful.

Start out with your passion- You'll always be successful.
Learn everything you possibly can. It's an investment in yourself.
    Don't procrastinate. It's self defeating.
    Learn from your mistakes.
    Never let anyone discourage you.

Do you have so much to do in a day you can't seem to get everything done? Try the "Pickle Jar" theory.

To plan your day, imagine a large empty pickle jar.
Take three or four large rocks and add them to the jar.
Now take a small handful of pebbles and add them in, jiggling it a bit to make them fit.
Next, add a handful of sand.
Now fill the remaining space in the jar with water.

There's a lot of stuff in your jar. But it's not just the objects, it's the order and volume of each item. If you were to put the water and sand in first, and then your pebbles, very few of the large rocks would fit. Or if you tried to put in 10 large rocks they'd break the jar.
Such is the case for planning your day.
Identify three or four high priority items that must get done (the rocks), plus a number of smaller, lower priority tasks such as emails, follow ups, etc. (the pebbles), as well as everyday routine stuff (the sand). And remember that your jar should contain room for family and personal time (the water). Source: AAA magazine-nov/dec issue

If you're new to a Home Business, try starting with an established company ( as an affiliate).
Face it. If you're not making money when you first start out, there's not much incentive for you to continue.

When you ready to move on, find your niche and create your own business. This is a very exiting time.

Start a Home Based Business in a niche you choose:
To find your niche – Go here first.

It's the Google keyword tool . Type in your keywords- something you'd really be good at: Please note – phrases are best as opposed to individual words. Type in the "captcha" letters and hit search.

Now, here's the secret
. When your results come up, go to the "choose columns to display" button, and switch it to "Average CPC" (costs per click).
This is what people are actually paying for their keywords.

Here's your data:
What to do with it?

Look at all the related keywords to your niche . Look at the estimated average CPC (costs per click) first. Anything over $1.00 is good – this is what advertisers are paying per keyword.
Look at the search volume. If there's lots of people searching what you typed in, it's probably a good niche and should be considered for your new home business.
Bookmark the keywords tool. You'll be coming back…

Now you're into research. Play with the "columns to display drop down" in the upper right hand corner. When you think you've found the phrases or keywords you want, just click "add" at the end of the column.
Google will add them to a list you can download later.

Save these keywords for your advertising.
Google Ad Words will give you a $100 credit as a new customer.

You'll need a good week or two of research before you even think of starting a business. Do your research first to make sure the niche you're thinking about will pay you – then build your site around it..

A good at home business to start is PLR or private label resell products, including plr ebooks and plr articles, free and for sale. Why would you give something away when you can sell it? Simple – for the exposure your business receives.

Take a peek at your successful competitors- what are they doing that you're not?

There's no limit on the ways you can make money or the businesses you can choose to own. You are only limited by your own imagination, drive and determination.
